A three-hour workshop for health care providers (NPs, PAs, MDs) to expand their knowledge of caring for patients who use opioids. Learning activities focused on responsible opioid prescribing and treatment strategies for opioid use disorder (OUD) include presentations, interactive case-based scenarios, and roleplay.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Describe background and significance of chronic pain.
- Analyze current Treatment Guidelines (patient selection, compliance monitoring for using opioids in acute versus chronic pain).
- Evaluate the appropriateness for the use of opioids in select patient scenarios.
- Examine different medication assisted treatments and associated challenges of managing pain/withdrawal in the presence of MAT (methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone).
- Apply shared decision-making, motivational interviewing, and Harm Reduction techniques to cases of patients who use opioids.
- Describe options for local treatment and support resources for OUD.

Nursing Contact Hours:
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by American Nurses Association Massachusetts, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Criteria for successful completion include: attendance at entire event and completion/submission of evaluation form.

Physician Assistant CME:
This program has been reviewed and is approved for a maximum of 3.00 hours of AAPA Category 1 CME credit by the Physician Assistant Review Panel. Physician assistants should claim only those hours actually spent participating in the CME activity. This program has been planned in accordance with AAPA’s CME Standards for Live Programs and for Commercial Support of Live Programs.
