Course Overview

This 2 hour program will provide an overview of climate change and its impact on health; a discussion of climate justice—a concept that addresses the fact that those who least contribute to greenhouse gas emissions are disproportionately affected by the negative sequelae of climate change; and the role of health care providers in addressing the health challenges and communicating the impact of climate change.

At the end of this session, participants will:

  • Describe the scientific basis of climate change and its impact on human health
  • Articulate the concept of climate justice
  • Discuss the current research regarding provider and public awareness of the health impacts of climate change
  • Describe 3 areas where health professionals can play a role in addressing health impacts of climate change and identify two specific strategies within each area
