Course Overview

Conflict is inevitable and a part of life. This session is a practical application of conflict management literature and theory for participants who want to better understand and navigate conflict. Participants will identify a conflict and take a journey in diagnosing their own conflict considering the type of conflict present (personal, task, process). Additionally, participants will consider potential symptoms including perceptions, internal dialogue, and emotions. Once symptoms and diagnosis are addressed, participants will identify treatment options including avoiding, accommodating, competing, compromising, and collaborating. Finally, tips for resolution are discussed and the group will reflect on their personal insights about the conflict they analyzed and diagnosed.

Learning Outcomes:

In this session, participants will:

  • Recognize and differentiate conflict management communication modes
  • Consider perceptions of internal dialogue
  • Identify conflict types and cultures and how each impacts dialogue
  • Discuss conflict scenarios and factors that affect transformation or resolution
